Cake glorious Cake

As some of you may know, I had a slight disaster with my wedding cake this week which has prompted me to look around for wedding cake suppliers. Cakeabella's in Maldon www.cakeabella.com/ came to my rescue and I am meeting up with them in April to discuss my design.

However this little problem made me think about the wedding cakes and how to pick the theme of your ultimate cake for your big day so I sought some advice from Lucie Waller from Wonderland Bakery about the themes and trends she is seeing emerging for this summer.

1 of the key trends coming through is using the cake to incorporate key design features that tie your wedding together may it be using your flowers on the cake or taking the design of your invitations and using that as the pattern on your cake. I am having an art deco themed wedding and I having been thinking of using some of the design from my invitations on my cake to tie it in all nicely (but also loads and loads of feathers!)

Alongside the bright trends we are currently seeing on the British high street this trends is also coming through in cake design, bright bold colours to match in with the flowers. I personally love this design below as it is beautifully bright

For those of you who like the idea of cutting a cake but don't want the hassle of having 3 or 4 tiers to cut up to give out at the reception, why not have cupcakes with a traditional cake at the top! Purchase some fab favour boxes and you have saved yourself money on buying favours by giving out the cupcakes

I have also fallen in love with the idea of cake pops that seem to be popping up (excuse the pun!) that weddings over the last couple of years, also an easy favour for your guests

Speaking of all this cake has made me hungry but before I sign off I have one for idea to share with you all that I absolutely love as it ties the 2 things together that I love; vintage china and cake!
Below is a smaller take on my previous post about a fab company called French made who use rustic and vintage ideas to make up dessert table but below is a fab idea for all you DIY brides out there.

Ruby's off to another Fayre

At Ruby's we are busy preparing for yet another visit to a wedding fayre. This time we will be visiting The Granary in Sudbury on Sunday 25th March from 11am.

We feel extra special about this fayre as firstly it is for charity as the Granary are trying replace the lock gates in the river that runs alongside the Granary and secondly 1 of my dear friends is getting married there in June so I get to have a sneaky peek before the big day!

I always get super excited about wedding fayres as a bride to be and supplier as there is so much excitement as you see the ideas forming for that special day. As a bride to be I sometimes found wedding fayres a little overwhelming because of the huge choice of suppliers at some of them but it is always the ones who take an interest in your special day before selling you their product that win me over. As a bride to be you want to feel special and it is important to find someone who will make you feel like you are the most important even if they have 80 other bookings for that summer!

Well hope to see you all the Granary wedding fayre!

Keeping the masses occupied on your big day!

As promised I have delved further in 2012 wedding reception ideas, however this time I have enlisted some help from my friends at the Essex Wedding Chat Page http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/160131350756598/. This group has a selection of helpful Essex suppliers to help brides to be (like me!) who just don't know where to start!

With any wedding reception the decision of what to feed the guests is every brides dilemma. For those of you looking for a vintage/rustic touch your wedding or for those of your who just love dessert, I have stumbled across a fabulous company who can supply your wedding with a beautiful dessert table.

These gorgeous delights are from London/ Essex based dessert table company French Made. As you can see from the beautiful images that they have supplied they can style your dessert table to match your day and incorporate all the finishing touches such as favours in to the style of your dessert table. I love these ideas as it is a different take on the candy buffet theme and is an amazing talking point for your guests, getting them to interact.

There has always been the age old question about whether to make your wedding sans children. However if you decide you want the little ones involved with all the fun of your big day, there are ways to ensure they have as much fun as the adults do.

Obviously if you have the budget you can opt to bring in a creche but for those without the means, I have noticed people making up personalised activity kits for kids, all quite reasonably priced
through my mass hunts through Ebay for all things wedding (and I am always amazed the number of things you can buy for a wedding!).However this can be quite difficult to find if your colour theme is unusual and if you are looking for something specific.

Up steps a great supplier in Essex called Party Bag World who make these little wonders! The ones belong are under £2.00 a bag which is a small price to pay for happy children during the wedding breakfast!

2012 trends for stunning wedding receptions

There are so many stunning reception trend appearing for 2012 but where to start! I have picked out some of my favourite trends for the 2012 wedding season.

The most popular trends coming through for this season is a nod to the days gone by with vintage inspired reception themes ranging from art deco to the days of "Rock and Roll". Obviously I am a little bit biased in this view but who couldn't love the romantic view of the bygone eras!

We have seen the increasing use of birdcages, vintage lanterns and teacups on tablecentres over the last couple of years but a new take on this theme is emerging through the use of multiple vases and candles to create a full landscape to stunning effect!

I have also seen increased use of vintage china within weddings (mine included!)but a new take on this is the use of vinyl record cake stands to embrace the 1950s Rock and Roll spirit! We found a great example of this theme on http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/vinylvillage/ by Vinyl Village. The unique creations are priced at £26.

Though this could easily be done yourself by brides on a budget by hunting around the good old car boot sale!

With the theme of brides on a budget on the mind why not scrap the flowers on tables all together and kill two birds with 1 stone  and give your guests an edible centrepiece. I have seen some stunning ones on my travels through the world of wedding and one of my favourite suppliers (tried and tested!) is Nicola Loveland of Loveland's Sweet celebrations http://www.facebook.com/Lovelands.Sweet.Celebrations. Nicola kindly made me a tree for my wedding fayre at Dove Barn and as you can see it looks stunning among the vintage china.

Art Deco is coming through also as a strong trend for 2012 with people looking back to the razzle dazzle of the Jazz age! Please check out my next blog for all things Art Deco!

All my Love
